This course is suitable for those working or intending to work as medical or legal secretaries, in court reporting, in the insurance or work cover areas, as a personal care worker or any one of the health professions. It is recommended for anyone seeking a better understanding of medical language.

The course is contained in 3 modules, each with 5 lessons. Each lesson includes a section on anatomy and physiology, and covers medical terms relating to that section, and to associated diseases, investigations and procedures.

Medical Terminology is an intensive course with a three-fold approach:

1. Thoroughly illustrated anatomy and physiology content,

2. The basic word stems and structure of medical terms and self-study units, with comprehensive word exercises for self correcting.

3. Reference sections. These sections provide non-essential, but interesting information on the origins of medical terms, and on special types of medical terms.

For each of the 3 modules, students are required to send in 5 assignments for assessment.

The full course is provided on compact disk (in colour). (A black and white print version is available)

Medical Terminology students are asked to complete self-assessment exercises and, for each module, to submit 5 substantial assignments for correction, by email or by post. Students are awarded a certificate detailing the topics covered, on satisfactory completion of the course

The Bantam Medical Dictionary Laurence Urdang
or

Collins Dictionary of Medicine or Oxford Dictionary of Nursing Oxford University Press.
